Green Living
We can all do our part by making smart purchases, so why not begin with flooring?
What is Green Flooring and the factors that determine Green?
Green flooring includes any flooring that is sustainable, eco friendly, contains recycled content, is recyclable content, is recyclable, leaves a small carbon footprint or has low VOC's (volatile organic compounds). There are different degrees of green associated with different types of flooring.
A green product can have one or more of the following qualities:
Are made from natural materials
Have been salvaged for reuse
Have a longer life cycle
Are low- or non-toxic
Do not off-gas
Contain recycled content
Conserve energy or water
Can be recycled or disposed of safely
Are rapidly renewable
Do not overtax natural resources
Are manufactured responsibly
Afford cost savings

Look at some of the many ways we are accomplishing this:
Forever Carpet - The newest development in Green Living!
Welcome to the new way of thinking! Forever Carpet is a new line that recycle sold carpet into new carpet. This "floor to floor" technology will revolutionize the way you think about carpet. No more carpet in the landfill, after sorting Forever Carpet in recycling centers, it goes through a recycling process where it is pelletized and extruded back into yarn fibers to be made into new carpet over and over again.
The carpet you are walking on today could be the carpet your great-grandchildren will be walking on tomorrow!
Green P.E.T. Recycled Carpet A carpet alternative that makes sense.
PET carpet is manufactured with yarn created from reclaimed polyester resins of two-liter soda bottles and ketchup containers. Commonly known as Pop Bottle Carpet, recycled PET (polyethyleneterephthalate) polyester carpet is uniquely strong and durable. The making of P.E.T.carpets starts out by sorting the P.E.T. bottles and then grinding them into small chips. The cleaned chips are then melted down and extruded into fiber before being spun into carpet yarn. Labels and caps from the P.E.T. holders are used to make the core, the roll that carpet is wrapped around. Since 1999 over 17 billion plastic bottles have been recycled, and that's saved one billion pounds of waste.
P.E.T.carpet comes in a range of styles, from plush solids, looped berbers, and textures to friezes. Of course the colors are almost endless. The quality of our polyester resins remains unchanged through out there cycling process. Indeed, recycled PET has a higher melting point and higher density than nylon, which gives the carpet many superior characteristics. In general, our carpets tend to be heavier, thicker and more luxurious than conventional nylon carpets. Moreover, recycled polyester carpets consistently demonstrate superior stain resistance over nylon construction.
Advantages:
Superior resistance to soils & stains.
Superb abrasion and wear resistance.
Bright coloration with excellent colorfastness.
Soft feel.
Fibers designed for high static control.
Much lower moisture absorption.
Market tested: 150 million yards installed since 1991.
Competitively priced.
Environmental Benefits:
Reduces use of virgin resources
Less energy needed for manufacturing than for virgin carpet
The dyeing process is less polluting
Over 1.6 billion containers reclaimed annually
Because plastic beverage containers are made with top quality resins as required by the Food and Drug Administration, recycled PET is superior to lower grades of virgin synthetic fibers used in making other brands of polyester carpet yarns.
Easier maintenance reduces the use of cleaners that may also emit VOCs.
About 40 two-liter soda bottles are recycled per square yard of carpeting.
P.E.T. fibers can be recycled for other applications such as car parts, insulation, transportation devices and stuffing for furniture.
DaltonCarpet.com is cutting back carpet's impact on the environment through the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. You can make an impact as well by choosing one of our Green Living Products for your next project!
